Conscious Horsemanship
My
name is Margaret Hannah. I qualified as a British Horse Society Instructor
in 1991 (BHSAI), achieving with that an ambition to become a horse-riding
teacher/ instructor which I had had since childhood. I have lived in Devon
since 1993. I have recently been inspired by certain ‘natural horsemanship-type’
methods and especially by clicker training in training my own horse and
clients’ ponies and horses.
In addition to working as a riding instructor and horse trainer, I have
been involved for over 15 years with the consciousness/personal development
movement.
I believe we live in an age of expanding consciousness, and are becoming
more aware of ourselves and our connectedness to all life on the planet.
Many people (perhaps especially in the West Country) are aware of this,
and aware that our horses, and our relationship with them, are involved
in this expansion of consciousness.
I feel that the challenges we find in trying to care for our horses, to
understand and train them, and to ride them well are great opportunities
for learning about ourselves and our equines.
Over the last few years in Devon I have evolved a method of horse and rider
training which I call ‘Conscious Horsemanship’. The origins
of this method are three-fold: Classical
Training, Communication with
Horses (‘Natural Horsemanship’-type methods) and Clicker
